Jeweler Buries $1 Million in Treasure, Sells Maps

(WWJ) As the pandemic has many feeling bored, restless and hungry for the stability only money can bring, a jeweler in Macomb County, Michigan is offering people a unique opportunity to find buried treasure.

A million dollars worth of treasure.

Johnny Perri of J&M Jeweler says he and his wife are burying $1 million worth of gold coins, diamonds and other valuables across Michigan in a dozen spots from the Upper Peninsula to metro Detroit. Participants pay for a treasure maps laden with clues to the scattered treasure, and then ... happy hunting.

"We went through waterfalls, streams, we kayaked everywhere," Perri told FOX 2. "As soon as I release the clues, the race is on," he said.

Perri said ticket holders will get a set of clues for specific items. Hunts will be staggered so the pursuit is for a single item; A limited number of tickets, which will vary in price, will be sold for each phase. The first round of tickets are $49.

The first quest has two 100 oz bars of silver as the prize. 

"You follow the riddle, you got a little wit, a little adventure in you, you'll find it quick — I don't expect it to go more than a week," told FOX 2.

Each prize is worth about $4,000. The winner of each hunt can decide to keep the treasure or sell it to Perri at the listed price.

"We have a GPS in there so I know if it's moved," he said.
