Look no further than the District for the best parks in the country.

The Trust For Public Land, which ranks parks across the country based on access, investment, acreage and amenities, gave D.C. the highest ParkScore rating. To generate the score, the organization evaluates publicly-owned land in the 100 most populous cities.

The District earned a top ParkScore of 83.8 on a 100-point scale.

In ranking the District’s parks, the agency found that 98 percent of D.C. residents live within a 10 minute walk of a park. The national average is 54 percent.

Nearly a quarter of land in D.C. is used for park facilities.

The report found Washington has 629 parks.
