Lower Toll Prices Could Be Coming In Maryland

August 7, 2019

A new proposal could decrease the cost of tolls in Maryland.

The Maryland Department of Transportation is seeking public feedback on Gov. Larry Hogan’s new toll package, which he estimates would save drivers more than $28 million over a five-year period.

The proposal includes a pay-by-plate payment choice that would allow tolls to automatically be billed to credit cards at the same rate cash customers pay.

Lower tolls rates would also be set for motorcycles and cars towing one or two-axle trailers, and a 15 percent discount would be given to video tolling drivers who pay the toll before an invoice is sent.

The department is seeking feedback on the proposal online and at nine public hearings scheduled next month.
