In Maryland, July 5 Is Now A Holiday

June 25, 2019

The Independence Day holiday just got longer for Maryland state employees.

Gov. Larry Hogan said Tuesday the July 4 holiday will be extended to include July 5.

The governor made the decision to add the extra day because the holiday falls on a Thursday, according to a news release.

“I hope the long holiday will encourage Marylanders to spend more time together and celebrate our nation’s independence with all we have to offer here in our great state,” Hogan said in a statement.

Maryland state universities will be able to choose whether to close or stay open and take the extra holiday at a later time.
