Starting next month, workers who travel between midnight and 4 a.m. will be eligible for a $3 subsidy for use on Lyft trips taken between their houses and workplace.

Metro’s After-Hours Commuter Service will give qualified workers a maximum of 10 discounted rides per week in the train system’s service area. Metro established the one-year pilot program to assist workers impacted by changes in the system’s hours.

Customers must apply and be approved at wmata.com/afterhours. Once approved, they will receive a pass in their Lyft app. Anyone enrolled by June 28 can start using the service July 1.

Enrollment is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, Metro said. It’s available to customers with a registered SmarTrip card.

Metro will periodically conduct audits to make sure everyone participating meets the qualifications.
