UVA Basketball Championship License Plates Now Available in Virginia

July 18, 2019

Virginia is celebrating the state university’s basketball championship in a big way.

To recognize the University of Virginia Cavaliers, who defeated Texas Tech in the title game last spring, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles created a UVA championship license plate.

Drivers can personalize the license plate, which fits up to six characters. The plates cost $10 and an additional $10 to personalize.

An annual $25 plate fee is added to registration costs.

After the first 1,000 license plates are sold, $15 of the $25 fee will be donated to UVA for student scholarships.

There are several variations of the license plate available.

“License plates are traveling billboards so this is a great way for fans to show their school spirit while supporting student scholarships,” said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb in a statement. “The limited edition plates won’t be available forever, so fans are encouraged to get theirs soon.”
