Amazon Donates $3 Million Toward Affordable Housing in Arlington

Amazon wants to help offset rising housing costs in Arlington.

The company announced Tuesday that it will donate $3 million to Arlington Community Foundation to provide support to residents in need of affordable housing.

Amazon hopes to empower the foundation to "improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable residents by increasing access to additional housing units for families, veterans, and single adults experiencing chronic homelessness or in need of affordable housing."

It also announced its plans to match donations of up to $5 million from Amazon employees to charities benefitting homelessness and housing from now through September 30.

The charities include: Accelerator YMCA, AHC Inc., Facets, FareStart, A-SPAN, Friendship Place, Bellwether Housing, Hopelink, Carpenter’s Shelter, Mary’s Place, Community Lodgings, Plymouth Housing, Compass Housing Alliance, Wellspring Family Services, Cornerstones, Wesley Housing Development Corporation, Doorways and YouthCare.

Amazon also donated $5 million towards affordable housing in Seattle.
