Say goodbye to free rides on the Circulator. D.C. Council has ended Mayor Bowser's initiative to give those around the District a "fair shot" by alieviating the Circulator fare.

In February, Bowser extended free fare with $3 million in the budget to supplement the revenue loss, DCist reports.

However, D.C. Council disagreed that the free rides helped those who needed it.

"A decision of this magnitude merits a larger discussion, including how it fits in with the District’s overall public transit goals, which does not appear to have taken place,” said Ward 3 Councilmember and transportation committee chair Mary Cheh.

Free fare will officially end Tuesday, October 1.
