A bus manufacturer issued a voluntary recall on over 53,000 school buses across the country.

Montgomery County Public Schools' buses are included in Daimler Trucks North America's recall.

The recall is due lack of padding in seats that would serve as for protection of students in the event of a crash.

“The seats may have been manufactured with styrene blocks that may not provide sufficient impact absorption in certain specific areas around the steel seat frame of the back support,” according to the press release.

Around 800 buses are affected in Montgomery County and will continue to be in use until safety upgrades can be made.

“We’re going to be working closely with the manufacturer to address the needed repairs; the lack of sufficient padding around the seats’ metal frame,” Montgomery County Public Schools spokeswoman Gboyinde Onijala said.

The work is set to be completed by the end of the school year.
