The center lane of the Bay Bridge will be closed on weekday afternoons starting Tuesday as officials work to improve the bridge’s surface.

The temporary daily closure is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Maryland Transportation Authority said, and could result in some mid-day delays.

Though the work is planned for off-peak hours, the transit agency said weather and increased traffic could impact the work schedule.

The concrete overlay material is required to be placed when it’s at least 45 degrees and requires a double-lane closure to be installed. It’s currently being placed overnight.

Permit vehicles greater than 10 feet wide will be restricted on the bridge during the closure.

“Closing the center lane temporarily during daytime hours will continue these efforts to expedite the project,” the agency said in a news release.
