A section of North Glebe road will close Wednesday night through Thursday morning as crews work to restore the water system after last week’s water main emergency.

The road will close Wednesday at 7 p.m. and reopen Thursday night, impacting the morning commute.

During the work, northbound traffic on Route 123 will only be allowed to turn left onto Chain Bridge. Traffic on Chain Bridge Road coming from D.C. will be required to turn right on Route 123.

The county said the work is required to repair a 36-inch transmission main segment that was installed in 1944.

The repairs won’t impact water service, officials said.

Friday’s water main break prompted local cities to issue boil water advisories and forced Chain Bridge Road to close.
