One person is in custody and a shelter-in-place has been lifted at the University of Mary Washington on Monday after the campus received a threat in a voicemail message.

University police said a caller left a voicemail suggesting someone planned to enter the campus with a firearm.

The school cancelled classes all day Monday “out of an abundance of caution.”

In a Twitter message, the university urged everyone on the campus to remain sheltered.

Police said a person of interest was arrested and that there was “never a credible threat to this campus.”

Classes are scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. tomorrow, and the school is making professional counseling staff available after the incident.

“We deeply appreciate the expedient and thorough response of our Campus Police and the University’s Threat Assessment Team, which led to swift resolution of this situation,” the university registrar’s office said in a tweet.
