June 11, 2019

It’s rare that a remake surpasses an original movie at the box office, but the new “Aladdin”  accomplished that feat.

The remake debuted Memorial Day weekend and has totaled more than $607 million in gross profit. The original, released Nov. 25, 1992, secured $504 million in profit, according to Box Office Mojo data.

“Aladdin” features Naomi Scott, Will Smith and Mena Massoud and made $86.1 million during its opening weekend.

The new film featured a $183 million production budget. It uses a similar storyline and music as the original film.
