D.C. Tops List Of Best Historical U.S. Cities

To locals, the District might appear to be the best historical city to visit in the U.S. Now, it’s official. 

Washington, D.C. topped U.S. News & World Report’s list of the best historical cities to visit because the capital is “brimming with affordable things to do.” 

“Various outfitters offer history tours that focus on showcasing the city’s past through the eyes of everyone from specific presidents to notable women,” the report said. “What’s more, exploring the Smithsonian museums, filled with art and science history, won’t cost you a dime.” 

Boston, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Williamsburg, Charleston, Savannah, Plymouth, St. Augustine and Salem round out the top 10. 

When determining the top historical cities, U.S. News & World Report used factors like each city’s history, preserved landmarks, monuments and tourist-friendly services.
