Cherry blossoms are cropping up around the District.

Those beautiful blooms that you get to see every spring, however, are not quite ready to flower just yet.

Several Higan cherry trees have recently sprouted white flowers.

The Higan variation differs from the Yoshino cherry trees, which have yet to bloom, according to the National Park Service.

It is not uncommon for Higan trees to bloom off and on during a warmer fall season or even in the cooler months, the National Park Service says.

So while we're excited for this year's Cherry Blossom Festival, it seems that we still have a few months to wait.
