Anyone who has ever worked as a server at any food establishment knows that it can often seem like a thankless job. There is the combination of being on your feet for long hours, putting in manual labor (you know, srubbing the tables until they shine), and the possibility of encountering a rude customer every now and then. Add on a holiday rush and it tends to be a lot.

But that wasn't the case for one lucky server in Illinois. Bethany Provencher not only served Donnie Wahlberg, but also was given a huge tip for it.

On Jan. 1 Wahlberg and his wife Jenny McCarthy sat down to a meal at their local IHOP. After being served by Provencher, Wahlberg folded up the receipt and handed it to her before leaving.

“He gave it to me, and told me not to open it until he left," Provencher told PEOPLE. "I said ‘okay, thank you, guys, come again. I’ll take care of you again.’ Then I open it, and I almost fell to the floor.”

Wahlberg tipped $2,020 on a $78.45 bill. And Provencher said it was just the blessing she needed.

“I just moved into an apartment, I’m a single mother—by myself with my son. So I struggle every day to make ends meet. And now I can buy furniture and put some money in the bank, and make sure my son is good,” she said.

My mom waited tables, and my dad tended bars-- for years! So, when I walk into a #WaffleHouse, and the staff treats me like a king, you better believe I treat them like queens! Thanks to the team at @wafflehouseofficial Charlotte, NC! ❤️

Wahlberg also shared some blessings in 2017 when he tipped $2,000 at Waffle House. But Provencher says this one was just for her.

“God put him there for a reason for me, and I know that,” she said. “It’s the greatest thing to ever happen in my life.”
